Grand Valley State University opened the new L. William Seidman College of Business building on the Grand Rapids campus in the fall of 2013. The new building was to include an exhibit about Bill Seidman, a founder of GVSU and FDIC Chairman among many accomplishments, aimed at a primary audience of students. Following an analysis of the project goals, Hutchinson Studios proposed that the hook for this presentation of Bill Seidman’s approach to life is the human being behind the accomplishments including Bill as a role model for students, a dreamer who was not afraid to think big, and an approach to the world with fearlessness and honesty.
The exhibit was installed in a prominent 20-foot wide alcove in a communal area of the college. On the back wall a series of photographs and quotes from both Bill and others provided vignettes of his personal and professional activities. Each vignette was short and consumable independently of the others to promote browsing by busy students. Summaries of Bill’s substantial accomplishments were presented on a deck area which included an interactive timeline presented on a touch screen.
Hutchinson Studios provided content and exhibit development, exhibit design and project management services, and produced the graphic and artifact components.
