Vintage Couture: The 1920-1960 Fashions of Elizabeth Parke Firestone

The Henry Ford
Dearborn, Michigan

Elizabeth Parke Firestone enjoyed fashionable dress and was a knowledgeable customer to the top clothing designers over a period of forty years. Fifty dresses, 110 pairs of shoes and other objects from The Henry Ford’s collection were showcased in this 5,000 square foot temporary exhibition. The first goal of the project was to celebrate the beauty of these objects.

The exhibit included an introductory section and areas for each decade. The dresses were exhibited simply in the context of a strong color scheme based on both Mrs. Firestone’s personal favorites, and on the color fashion of the period. Lighting and graphics picked up on motifs of couture from each period. A shoe wall presented a dazzling array of 110 pairs of shoes showing their unique and similar qualities.
